Did you miss the London STEM Women Graduate Careers Event at the QEII Centre on 21st February? 600 eager student and graduate attendees got to network with 29 top employers representing diverse STEM-related fields, all under one roof. It was a fantastic day of inspiration, connections and new opportunities!

Career Journeys and Insights

Kicking off the day was the welcome from STEM Women, followed by event sponsors, SEFE. This set the stage for an engaging insight talk from Capgemini Invent, with India Hatfield sharing her personal career journey and tips on how to push yourself outside your comfort zone.

Next, Ashton Massey (Future Careers Recruitment Specialist) from Virgin Media O2 gave an overview of the fantastic opportunities available, followed by Nicola Plenderleith (Head of Talent Acquisition) from Leyton who provided insights into Leyton’s company history and career options. This session ended with a panel discussion where representatives shared great advice including how common it is to have no idea what you want to do in life – embrace the uncertainty!

Forging meaningful connections

Throughout the afternoon, attendees were able to connect with all 29 employers at their company stands in the bustling exhibition area, finding out valuable information about graduate jobs and internships, and forging meaningful connections.

Hannah, a UCL student described the event as ‘informative and inspiring’ saying “It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to speak to so many women in STEM about their individual journeys and the companies they work for today”.

Becoming a ‘woman in tech’

Later in the day, a second speaker session took place, with attendees able to hear from AWE, SEFE and Digital Futures. Julie Symmonds offered personal insights into her journey from chemistry student to a career at AWE, and Trenaay Larmond from SEFE shared some fascinating insights from our esteemed event sponsor. Finally, Lisa Carpenter from Digital Futures old the audience what she wishes she had known before becoming a ‘woman in tech’!
