Event Review – London STEM Women Graduate Careers Event, 11th June 2025
On Wednesday, 11th June 2025, at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster, STEM Women hosted the first in-person event of the summer, the London STEM Women Graduate Careers Event. Attracting an impressive 451 attendees, the event provided a dynamic platform for students and recent graduates to connect with leading employers in the STEM sector.

These organizations showcased a variety of graduate roles, internships, and placements, providing attendees with numerous opportunities to explore potential career paths. As the employers enjoyed a networking lunch, the students and graduates filled the theatre for their first talk of the day.
Insightful Live Talks
The event began with a series of engaging live talks from industry leaders and top graduate employers from AWE Nuclear Security Technologies, Capgemini, and Gunvor Group. Representatives from these employers shared insights into their career journeys, achievements as well as tips and advice based on their experiences.
- Elana Twumwaa at AWE emphasized the importance of creating positive experiences for women and highlighted the company’s strength-based recruitment strategy.
- Toni Thomas, Head of HR at Network Rail, discussed shaping the future of rail and the company’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Michelle Zietsman and Nilam Magdani from Uniper Energy shared their diverse career journeys, encouraging attendees to remain adaptable and open-minded in their professional paths.
These sessions provided valuable insights into navigating careers in STEM and the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Networking Opportunities
Following the talks, attendees had the chance to engage directly with employers at their exhibition stands. This networking session allowed students and graduates to ask questions, seek advice, and learn more about the opportunities available within each organization. STEM Women also provided tips on leveraging LinkedIn to build meaningful professional connections.
Panel Discussion
The final live talk was a panel discussion featuring representatives from Capgemini and Gunvor Group, and joined by Sophie Chadwick, STEM Women Marketing and Events Director. The panelists were able to share their real life experiences and career insights while the attendees posed questions to the panelists, gaining first hand advice into landing your first role without previous experience, building confidence in a male dominated space, and the significance of being prepared and authentic in interviews
Looking Ahead
The success of this event sets the tone for the rest of the summer event season and the upcoming Autumn season, particularly the London STEM Women Graduate Careers Event on 16th October 2025, which will also be held at the QEII Centre in Westminster.
