On Monday 5th October, STEM Women will be hosting a virtual careers event for students and recent graduates based in the South West, South Coast and South West.

The event will allow students to virtually network with potential employers in the regions, watch online speaker sessions and take part in a Q&A. Confirmed companies attending include National Grid, PwC, Intellectual Property Office, General Dynamics, Ministry of Defence, Baker Hughes,  Atkins, Welsh Water, APR, Rolls Royce, Virgin and Newton Europe, with many more to be announced.

The new online format will replicate many aspects of a physical careers event. Attendees will register to attend the event and employers will each have a virtual stand showcasing their branding and graduate opportunities. During the event, employers and candidates can interact through a webchat, which can then be converted to a voice or video call, and attendees can watch live speaker sessions and ‘join the audience’ for a Q&A.

Just 22% of the STEM workforce in the UK is female, according to the Office for National Statistics Labour Force Survey. The STEM Women South West, South Coast and South Wales Event will strive to bridge the gap between talented graduates and employers, starting conversations and boosting equality in the future workforce.

For the past 2 years STEM Women have held an event in Bristol at the stunning We the Curious. This year promises to be the biggest yet, attracting students studying at universities across three regions.

Sophie Chadwick, STEM Women Events Manager: “Last year’s Bristol event was a huge success and we had great feedback from employers and students. We are very excited to bring this event online as it means even more students will be able to attend, network and start their career in STEM.”

Rebecca Ruth Sterling, a student at Cass Business School described how she found last years’ STEM Women event:

“The event has been really inspiring. We’re in our third year now so we’re just starting to look at what opportunities are available, and it’s really inspiring to see women who are actually doing it!”

Alongside the South West, South Coast and South Wales event, STEM Women will also be organising an event focusing on financial services careers, a sector specific technology event and more general STEM careers events for regions across the UK, Ireland and Europe. There will be online events for Yorkshire, North West and North East England, Midlands, London and Home Counties, Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands.
