The first ever Birmingham STEM Women Community Event took place on October 22nd and was a fantastic occasion! 20 employers met with over 190 students and every seat was taken for our keynote and employer speeches.

We welcomed students from local universities. Our free coaches from the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, Warwick University and Coventry University took attendees to the IET Building.

Our event was sponsored by EY and they were joined on stage by Network Rail, Rolls Royce, PwC and BP for the employer talks. A further 15 employers exhibited (Redington, Acturis, Citi, Cap Gemini, Playground Games, JP Morgan, Instron, Kier Group, Capco, Genpact, Capital One, Kainos, Zonal and Willmott Dixon) and met with students during the networking sessions.

Our keynote speaker, Kate Russell, inspired the attendees with her talk, exploring a variety of topics including imposter syndrome and unconscious bias. She later chaired a panel discussion where students had a chance to put their questions directly to the employers.

The employers and students enjoyed a buffet lunch before networking throughout the afternoon. We are sure that this will result in a number of job offers, and we look forward to hearing the success stories over the next few months! The employers and students enjoyed a buffet lunch before networking throughout the afternoon.
