STEM Women Graduate Success Story with ASC – Anastasya, Graduate Mechanical Engineer

Anastasya Arrow attended the Brisbane STEM Women Graduate Careers Event in 2025 where she met representatives from ASC, eventually securing a position as Graduate Mechanical Engineer in January 2026.

At STEM Women events, we introduce students & graduates from STEM disciplines to inspirational employers in STEM and related fields. These events allow women and non-binary people to search for career opportunities, grow their professional network and meet like minded peers in a supportive space.

Anastaysa’s Experience

Anastasya reflects on her experience at the Brisbane event she attended:

“I found the STEM Women event to be inspiring and well organised. My favourite part was speaking to the ASC team and the graduates at their booth. Hearing firsthand about the graduate rotations in all three areas of engineering (Projects, Maintenance, Design) and listening to their experiences and passion for the job gave me real insight into what the Graduate Engineer Program at ASC was like.”

Attending the event was a crucial step for Anastasya securing her role, allowing her the opportunity to learn more about ASC and giving her the confidence to apply after meeting the representatives in-person.

“Attending the STEM Women event was a key step in my career journey. After speaking with the ASC team, I left with a much better understanding of the company, its people, and the opportunities within the Graduate Engineer Program. The interaction I had at the event gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities with ASC and strengthened my interest in working there. Those conversations ultimately led me to apply for the graduate program and today I am proud to be working at ASC as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer. Looking back, attending the event played an important role in helping me take that first step towards my career.”

Promoting Discovery

STEM Women events give companies the opportunity to showcase their brand, culture and job opportunities to young women in the next generation of STEM and introduce their company students & graduates who might be unfamiliar with them too. These experiences allow representatives to highlight everything that the company has to offer and invite new and eager candidates to learn about the company first hand from real people that work there.

“I was not familiar with ASC prior to attending the STEM Women event. The event introduced me to the company and gave me the opportunity to learn more about the work ASC does, its culture, and the opportunities available to graduates. Without attending the event, I may never have discovered a career path that has been such a great fit for me.”

A Message to Students & Graduates in STEM

Anastasya encourages students to attend and discover new pathways that they might not find elsewhere. At STEM Women, we value the importance of human connection in the early careers process, and have seen countless times how effective it is for companies and attendees alike reaching their goals.

“I would absolutely encourage students to attend. It can feel a little intimidating at first, but the people you meet are often graduates and professionals who were once in the same position. That was certainly true of the ASC graduates I met, and now I find myself sharing my own experiences with students considering similar career paths. Simply showing up, starting a conversation and asking questions can open doors you never expected. You never know where those connections might lead.”

Women are still underrepresented in STEM disciplines, especially engineering, and we are so excited that Anastasya has discovered insight, confidence and opportunity.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity the STEM Women event provided. It connected me with the ASC team, gave me valuable insight into the engineering industry, and helped me build the confidence to pursue opportunities I may not have otherwise considered. Today, I am enjoying my experiences at ASC, working alongside supportive colleagues, continuing to learn, and contributing to meaningful projects. It’s rewarding to look back and see how one conversation at a STEM Women event helped shape the career journey I’m on today.”
