International Women’s Day 2025 at STEM Women

International women’s day, celebrated on March 8th each year, recognises the achievements of women, whether it be social, economic, cultural and/or political and focuses on the importance of the continuation of these achievements in the future. The day also calls attention to gender issues and raises awareness about how women all over the world are affected by them.

“If society will not admit of woman’s free development, then society must be remodeled.” – Elizabeth Blackwell

International Women’s Day has a different theme every year, highlighting current and prevalent issues affecting women. 2025’s theme: Accelerate action. “Accelerate Action is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women’s advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.

“The most damaging phrase in the language is: ‘It’s always been done that way.’” – Admiral Grace Hooper

Here at STEM Women, it’s at the core of our organisation to accelerate the advancement of women, particularly in traditionally male dominated spaces and industries, so the theme Accelerate action aligns deeply with our mission. We see everyday how women are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and maths industries and dedicate our time to helping them find opportunities that will advance them and allow them to thrive.

“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.” ― Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Through our events, we introduce women across the UK, Ireland and Australia to some of the best inspiring graduate employers. We hope to aid women in discovering the available opportunities that are tailored to advance them in their early careers. Along with many of our employer partners, we agree that diversity of thought and perspective is essential for STEM industries and the current heavy investment in such opportunities is crucial in these life-changing industries.

“Girls should never be afraid to be smart.” – Emma Watson
