Our Corporate Social Responsibilities

At STEM Women, we run graduate careers events for companies looking to improve their diversity and inclusion. There are still vast gender imbalances across the UK workforce, in particular within STEM industries. Our events, job board and digital offerings work towards addressing this disparity by introducing inspiring employers to our STEM Women communities.

Corporate social responsibility represents an integral aspect of our business, through which we aim to generate shared value with our employees, clients, and communities.

Our vision and mission

Our vision is to help improve the gender imbalance in STEM industries across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. We work towards our vision by introducing inspirational employers to our STEM women communities. Our events and digital services provide an important platform for talented STEM students and graduates to connect with employers looking to recruit for their graduate roles and opportunities.

“CSR is extremely important to STEM Women. Our events help many of our clients to achieve their CSR goals, and we work incredibly hard to ensure that our working practices and culture benefit our wider community.”

Stephen Rooney, Director

Office Culture and Staff Benefits

Our corporate social responsibilities align with our company mission to create an equal, inclusive and diverse workplace. We aim to provide a supportive culture in which people are valued, respected and rewarded. In addition to a competitive salary, we also offer a range of benefits to all full-time employees. Employees can select from healthcare, subsidised travel, subsidised gym membership and additional holiday options. In addition to this our staff can suggest charitable causes and receive time off for charity/community work. We also organise regular team nights out, meals and office events. STEM Women are also committed to providing a safe workplace for our staff, we have a Modern Slavery Policy, a Health and Safety Policy, Sanctions Policy and an Anti Bribery and Corruption Policy, all available upon request.

Our charity work

STEM Women is delighted to pledge a commitment to charitable and community work during 2023. This includes offering 2 days additional annual leave to staff to allow them to volunteer for a charity of their choice. The business also pledges £250 in charitable or community donations each quarter to a worthy cause chosen by our team. In addition, our team also regularly take part in charity activities in their spare time, including charity walks and fun runs, which the company supports with donations.

Diversity and Equal Opportunities

We work hard to understand the communities we serve by being active in social mobility, and promoting inclusivity. All of our events are completely free to attendees, and we run coaches for our physical events, allowing students to travel to our venues for free. These coaches will usually run from universities campuses, or from neighbouring cities, to help more students have access to our careers events and opportunities. We also support and promote diverse external speakers by paying them to present at our events.

Our staff are always encouraged to be constantly learning about diversity and inclusion by reading articles and reports, listening to talks and watching speakers at our STEM Women events. We are passionate about addressing the gender imbalance in STEM, and so commit time to producing a free whitepaper report. This report uses data from our women in STEM communities, to help employers learn more about how to attract more women into STEM roles. We are also members of the ISE and AAGE bodies, who are both committed to a diverse and equal workforce. Finally, we are looking to take part in a number of training courses around unconscious bias and inclusivity to further develop our standings as an authority in equal opportunities.

Environmental

As a business we encourage our people to think more sustainably, developing greener practices to reduce waste. We are continually looking to improve our practices to be environmentally friendly, through limited paper usage, car shares and working from home.
