What if you could work with remarkable people on extraordinary things? What if the end result was something a little bit special? What if your role was mission critical?
For nearly 70 years, AWE has been at the forefront of nuclear weapons research and development. We have a critical mission: to provide the warheads for the UK’s ultimate deterrent – Trident. We also use our unique skills to provide wider UK government with counter-terrorism and nuclear threat reduction solutions.
It takes a special sort of person to work at AWE. What if that person was you?

We are offering a flexible and exciting one-year placement as an Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer – a role where you will make a genuine contribution to keeping the UK safe and secure.
- Do you have a background in mechanical engineering, mechanical design or general engineering
- Would you like to hone your mechanical engineering skills on truly unique products?
For nearly 70 years, AWE has been at the forefront of keeping the UK safe and secure. We have been assigned a critical mission by the UK Government:
- to protect the UK from nuclear threats such as terrorism and the contravention of international treaties

There are diverse opportunities for placements as an Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer within our three engineering subfunctions:

Whichever area you work in, you will be part of a supportive and flexible team involved in a range of activities which may cover some or all of: concept generation, detailed design, assembly and testing of precision mechanical components and systems.
Due to AWE’s critical role, further technical details of this placement are classified. But rest assured, you will be doing remarkably interesting things as part of our expert engineering team!
