The Department of Mathematics at Exeter is renowned for developing and applying methodological research to some of today's most important societal challenges.

The Global Systems Institute at Exeter is a trans-disciplinary group of researchers, teachers and partners whose goal is to look beyond single 'environmental' issues to a truly systemic view of coupled global changes in the human sphere and the biosphere.

The role

We are seeking to appoint a new Lecturer in Mathematics, to be based at the Exeter campus, who will contribute to extending the research and education profile of Mathematics within the new Global Systems Institute. We welcome applications from those working in the broad field of mathematics applied to Earth System dynamics and the challenges of living sustainably in the Anthropocene. Applications are invited from those whose research and teaching interests include: complex system theory, the dynamics of the coupled human-environment system, the dynamics of atmosphere and oceans, data-model integration, predictability and uncertainty in the climate system, climate change and impacts, and integrated assessment. We are particularly interested in applicants who have a strong track-record of innovative research, as well as a passion for inter-disciplinary teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a Masters portfolio associated with the Global Systems Institute.
